Improve Governance

Let’s face it; the word ‘governance’ scares many people. It is often perceived to be associated with complex processes, excessive oversight and layers of red tape that stifle agility and make it difficult for organisations to do business.

The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) defines Corporate Governance as “the framework of rules, relationships, systems and processes within and by which authority is exercised and controlled in corporations...Corporate Governance influences how the objectives of the company are set and achieved, how risks are monitored and assessed, and how performance is optimised”.

In simple terms, governance is a decision-making framework that balances the risk appetite of a business with its performance objectives. Governance is therefore present in all organisations, but its implementation varies significantly, even between very similar businesses.
